Common Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

My outlet stopped working. What should I check first?

Three quick checks before you call us. First, test any nearby GFCI outlets (usually in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, or outdoor areas) and press the reset button. One tripped GFCI can kill power to several outlets downstream. Second, check your breaker panel for a tripped breaker. Third, plug something else in to confirm the outlet (not the device) is dead. If all three check out and the outlet is still dead, give us a call.

A small, brief spark when plugging in a high-draw appliance (vacuum, hair dryer, space heater) is usually normal. Persistent sparking, large visible arcs, popping sounds, scorch marks, or a burning smell are not. Stop using the outlet immediately, switch off the breaker for that circuit, and call us. Sparking outlets are one of the most common causes of residential electrical fires.

A warm outlet is a warning sign. It usually means the wiring behind it is loose, the outlet itself is failing, or the circuit is overloaded. Heat damages insulation over time and can lead to a fire. Unplug whatever is connected, shut off the breaker, and call us the same day.
